Barnes One World Link supports communities in developing countries. As well as giving financial support, we aim to form personal connections with the people in these communities and to become friends with them.

Active since 1982, we started when a group of Barnes residents formed the Barnes Third World Link.

We maintain personal contact with projects through letters, photographs and, where possible, personal visits.

We are interested in sustainable development: we hope to empower struggling communities so that they can progress towards self-sufficiency.  Most of the groups we have worked with are in rural areas.  Currently, we support an education and training programme in Tamil Nadu in south India and a tree nursery project in the north Indian state of Bihar. We maintain personal contact with projects through letters, photographs and, where possible, personal visits.

We are a small friendly group and we welcome new members.  Our activities in Barnes have included fundraising projects such as quiz nights and other events, an annual stall at Barnes Fair and sponsored walks. At our meetings - usually held on the last Thursday of each month in a member's home - we discuss the projects and plan activities.  We invite guest speakers to talk on a wide variety of development issues and activities. We always appreciate support or help at occasional events even if those involved can’t spare a lot of time or are not able to attend evening meetings. For more information contact:
